BREAKAWAY GARDEN - Your holiday apartment in Dawlish

Dawlish is part of the wonderfully scenic Amberline coast which stretches south to the fishing port of Brixham and South Devon. Originally a fishing village whose men sailed as far afield as Newfoundland, it developed as a small coastal resort which is reflected in its Georgian and Victorian architecture

Our 3 stars apartment occupies part of the owner's house but is completely self contained, snug and well equipped for our visitors. It has its own entrance and guests can enjoy the privacy of their own south facing patio garden.

The facilities and amenities of the town are a two minute level walk; station, beach and sea ten minutes.

It is ideal for a couple's relaxing getaway and whilst not registered for those with a disability, it is convenient with level access for those guests who might be a little less mobile.

Dawlish, a brief description...

Dawlish, a spa town for many years was visited by both Charles Dickens and Jane Austen.

Trains pass along this most spectacular coast line in the UK following the estuaries of the rivers Exe and Teign, almost touching the sea which during the winter often spills over onto the railway track. Isambard Kingdom Brunel, that most innovative and brilliant engineer used this route to try out his atmospheric railway, remnants of this can still be seen at the estuary village of Starcross just to the north of Dawlish.

Wedged between the Haldon hills Dawlish Brook flows through Dawlish to the sea, crossing The Lawn, the green lung of Dawlish and providing a haven for the many varieties of water fowl and famous Black Swan and cygnets. In the summer the grass provides space for families picnicking or playing games, while the nearby Town Beach is a must for clean bathing and bucket and spade sand castles. Dawlish Warren, a 30 minute walk along the sea wall is a world recognised site for wading birds and water fowl, and during the winter the visitor can see knott, egret, avocet close up from one of the boats that run regular bird watching trips. Small shops line the streets on either side of the Brook and there are plenty of good eateries in cafes and pubs to suit all tastes.

In July and August there is much family entertainment that is free, culminating in the August Carnival and sea side spectacular Red Arrow display. The towns of Teignmouth and Shaldon ( 2 miles) also provide events for the family, whilst the nearby activity centre in the Haldon Hills , provides cycling tracks and wild life walks for the family. Dartmoor, that last wild rolling wilderness with its famous pony, prison, fair , rolling moor and granite torr is a 30 minute drive away, but the visitor can also just park up his/her car and use the good transport system of , bus and boat to view the delights of Dawlish and South Devon , or let the 'train take the strain' around the Exe estuary to Exmouth town.
